EU tells Serbia there are “no shortcuts” to accession

Belgrade, May 22 (EFE/EPA) - The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, on Thursday urged Serbia to move forward with the necessary reforms to enter the European Union (EU), especially in terms of press freedom and the fight against corruption and warned that "there are no shortcuts" on this path. "Reforms are necessary, because there are no shortcuts to accession," Kallas warned at a press conference in Belgrade after meeting with the Serbian president, the populist and nationalist Aleksandar Vucic, and other members of the government of the Balkan country. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs also stressed the importance of Serbia and Kosovo normalizing their relations, another "fundamental" requirement for both nations to fully integrate into the community club.
