Thousands demonstrate in Bulgaria against euro adoption

Sofia, May 31 (EFE/EPA) - Thousands of people took to the streets of Sofia and more than a hundred cities in Bulgaria on Saturday to demonstrate against the planned adoption of the euro on January 1, 2026, in a protest organized by the ultranationalist party ‘Resurrection’, the third largest political force in the country. The main rally took place in front of the headquarters of the Bulgarian National Bank, under the slogan "We insist on our lev (the Bulgarian currency), we insist on our referendum", a slogan that summarizes the opposition of this formation - with 33 of the 240 seats in Parliament - to abandon the national currency.
