Vatican City, May 7 (EFE).- Several thousand people, including the faithful and the curious, are already gathered in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican shortly after the beginning of the conclave in which the successor to Pope Francis will be sought, awaiting the first smoke. The 133 cardinal electors were locked in at 17:46 local time (15:46 GMT) in the Sistine Chapel to begin electing a new pope, and this afternoon will hold the first vote. CAMERA: DANIEL CÁCERES. Groups of faithful follow opening conclave Mass from St. Peter’s Square
Vatican City, May 7 (EFE).— Around 5,000 faithful, along with more than 200 cardinals, bishops, and religious figures, took part in the “Pro eligendo Pontifice” Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica ahead of the conclave to elect the successor to Pope Francis. Vatican City, May 7 (EFE) - Some 5,000 faithful, along with more than 200 cardinals, bishops and religious, participated in the Mass ‘Pro eligendo pontifice’ in St. Peter's Basilica, before the electors are locked in conclave to elect the successor of Francis, while small groups have gathered in the square in front of the screens that broadcast the ceremony. The faithful who wanted to visit St. Peter's Square had to pass police controls to access, while hundreds of journalists are concentrated in the adjacent Pio XII Square and on the platforms installed to follow from 19.00 hours (17.00 GMT) the first smoke after the only vote of the evening.
